Environment, Health and Safety

At Fairchild Semiconductor, we believe that taking an active part in health & safety and protecting the environment is our responsibility to our employees, our customers and the communities in which we operate. As part of this responsibility, we have developed and are managing excellent programs that reflect Fairchild's ongoing commitment.

As evidence to Fairchild's commitment to Environment, Health and Safety, an Environment, Health and Safety policy has been created. This policy is updated periodically to reflect our ever changing improvements in our programs. This policy is endorsed by Mark Thompson, the CEO of Fairchild Semiconductor.

ISO 14001 is an environmental management system certification. To achieve certification a company must demonstrate to an independent third party auditor that they have effectively implemented and maintain an environmental management system that meets or exceeds standards set by the ISO 14001 organization. As verification our registered sites have been awarded Certificates of Achievement. These may be viewed on our Environmental Management System Certificates web site.

OHSAS 18001 and KOSHA 18001 are Health and Safety management certifications. To achieve certification a company must demonstrate to an independent third party auditor that they have effectively implemented and maintain a heath and safety management system that meets or exceeds standards set by the OHSAS 18001 or KOSHA 18001 organizations. As verification our registered sites have been awarded Certificates of Achievement. These may be viewed on our Health and Safety Management System Certificates web site.

Customer environmental management system certifications are awarded by Fairchild's customers. Obtaining these certifications indicates that Fairchild has effectively implemented an environmental management system that meets or exceeds the requirements set by the customer. As verification of our certifications, our registered sites have been awarded Certificates of Achievement. These may be viewed on our Customer Environmental Management System Certifications web site.

The European Union Council of Ministers has adopted the RoHS directive (Restrictions on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and the WEEE directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives. Effective July 1, 2006, RoHS bans the use of certain materials, such as lead, mercury and cadmium, in electronics products sold in Western Europe. WEEE requires any company that sells their electronics products in Europe to set up collection and recycling systems for these goods at end-of-life by August 13, 2005.

Fairchild has taken a proactive approach to these directives. Fairchild is compliant with the RoHS legislation, with the exception of lead. You may view our statement regarding RoHS compliance statement. We are actively working to ensure Fairchild meets the July 2006 deadline for ROHS implementation. Current activity in our RoHS compliance program may be viewed on our RoHS compliance information web site.
