Three of Fairchild Semiconductor’s Devices are Finalists for EDN’s Innovation Awards
San Jose, Calif. – February 25, 2010 Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, is a finalist in three product innovation categories in the prestigious EDN Innovation Awards for 2010. The FSA800, a USB accessory switch, was chosen as a finalist in the Analog: Signal Path category. Fairchild’s FSEZ1016A, a primary-side regulation (PSR) pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller, is a finalist in the Power: Lighting category, while Fairchild’s FAN9612 interleaved dual Boundary-Conduction-Mode (BCM) Power-Factor-Correction (PFC) controller is a finalist in the Power: Converters category.
Fairchild’s FSA800 is a 3:1 USB accessory analog switch that enables USB data, audio signals and UART data to share a common connector. The FSA800 has charger detection functionality and microphone connection capability while still providing superior audio signal integrity. This device also features over voltage protection (OVP) and allows for battery charging on the VBUS line.
The FSEZ1016A is a highly integrated PWM controller that powers high-brightness (HB) light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Its proprietary PSR technology enables a simplified circuit design, which eliminates the secondary-side feedback circuitry in battery charger applications. A low-cost, smaller and lighter charger is the result when compared with a conventional design or a linear transformer. It also features a low startup current (10 µA), which allows the adapter or system to meet low standby power regulations.
The FAN9612 is an interleaved dual BCM PFC controller. It operates two parallel-connected boost power trains 180° out of phase. This controller maximizes efficiency up to 96 percent even at low-line. It can be used in 100 to1000W offline AC-DC power supplies for digital TVs, desktop and entry-level server computers, front-end telecom systems and industrial power systems.
Readers and registered users of EDN are invited to vote for the winners in various categories. Voting runs from February 18 through March 19. Innovation Award winners will be announced during a reception to be held on April 26 in San Jose.
