Fairchild Semiconductor Wins EEPW Power Products Award for Innovation

FAN5362 Buck Converter Recognised For Efficiently Powering High-Capacity SD Flash Memory Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif. – May 18, 2011 – Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, has received a prestigious award for innovation from Electronic Engineering and Product World (EEPW), one of China's key electronics design publications, in the magazine's annual Power Products Awards.
The FAN5362 received a Best Innovation Product of the Year Award 2011 in the highly competitive DC-DC Conversion category. The award was presented to Fairchild at the EEPW Power Products Awards event ceremony, held on 18 May in Shenzhen.

"As mobile handsets and other portable devices increase their demand for memory storage, there is an emerging need to power increasingly larger SD flash memory cards," said Frank Ma, director of Mobile, Computing, Consumer and Communications (MCCC) Marketing and Applications for Asia. "To meet this requirement we developed the FAN5362. This easy-to-design solution supports the quick design cycles found in the rapidly expanding mobile device market, making it an ideal choice for cell phones, tablets, eBooks, PMPs, DSCs, GPS and lithium-ion portables."

The FAN5362 is a 3MHz 500mA synchronous Buck regulator that delivers a fixed output voltage from an input voltage supply of 2.7V to 5.5V. The award-winning device uses a proprietary architecture with synchronous rectification and is capable of delivering a peak efficiency of 96 percent, while maintaining efficiency over 90 percent with load currents as low as 1mA.

The FAN5362 is another example of the broad range of solutions from Fairchild that extend battery life and conserve board space in portable and consumer designs. Although it is targeted towards 2.9V SD flash memory cards, it is also available in other fixed output voltage options. The FAN5362 is ideal for cell phone designers who need to support SD flash memory cards with high capacity such as 8GB, 16GB or 32GB.
