Fairchild Semiconductor® Receives Best Product Award
from China's AET Magazine for FAB2200 Audio Subsystem

SAN JOSE, Calif. – December 20, 2011 – Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, has received a Best Product Award from Application of Electronic Technique (AET), a leading journal for the electronics industry in China. The award, made in the Analog Devices category, was for Fairchild's FAB2200, an audio subsystem with stereo Class-G headphone amplifier and 1.2W Class-D mono speaker amplifier.

The winners of this year’s awards were selected by the readers of AET. AET has some 200,000 registered readers, and voting took place over a three-month period, both in print and online.

Designers of mobile devices, such as smart phones, tablets, multimedia internet devices (MIDs), and portable media players, are faced with the challenge of making small speakers in their devices sound louder and better, while minimizing the impact on battery life. The FAB2200 audio subsystem, developed by Fairchild Semiconductor, helps designers to overcome this challenge.

The FAB2200 audio subsystem combines a capacitor-free stereo Class-G headphone amplifier with a Class-D speaker amplifier. A proprietary integrated charge pump generates multiple supply rails for the ground-centered Class-G headphone output, significantly reducing power dissipation as compared to Class-AB design implementations, while offering a high power supply rejection ratio.

The filterless Class-D amplifier can be connected directly to a speaker without the need for two external filter networks, reducing the overall system cost. The device also features Automatic Gain Control, which protects speakers by limiting the maximum speaker output levels without introducing distortion. It can also dynamically limit clipping as the battery voltage falls.

The FAB2200 mobile audio IC helps make portable audio applications sound louder and better while reducing overall system cost and minimizing the impact on battery runtime. Available in a 25-bump, 0.4mm pitch, WLCSP package, the FAB2200 is suitable for use in mobile handsets, notebook computers, tablets and other compact, portable devices.
