type1 nav_all_off Fairchild Semiconductor Expands Product Offerins in POWER Conversion/Battery Management and Signal Processing Applications

Enhanced portfolio and design capabilities through acquisition of KOTA Microcircuits and Power Management &  Video Products from Micro Linear Corp.

Fairchild Semiconductor International announces the acquisition of two businesses to continue to build the company's analog business. KOTA Microcircuits, based in Loveland, Colorado and Micro Linear's Power Management business, based in San Jose, California will become part of Fairchild's Analog and Mixed Signal Group.

Fairchild Semiconductor has expanded its product offerings in the areas of Power Management, DC-DC Conversion, PFC/PWM Controllers through the acquisition of Power Management & Video Products from Micro Linear Corp. This acquisition further enhances Fairchild's significant presence in its target application segments.

The Micro Linear acquisition expands Fairchild's offering of power management solutions for computing, communications and handheld/portable applications. The acquisition will also add complementary video products such as Video Filters, drivers, and Genlock/Sync Generators, further expanding Fairchild's offerings in the area of Analog Signal Processing. Fairchild's portfolio of power management, signal processing and data conversion solutions target the fast growing communications, computing, and portable products markets.

The acquisition of KOTA Microcircuits Incorporated expands Fairchild's offering of Analog Signal Processing solutions especially targeted to the cellular phone and PDA applications. Designers of high frequency portable and hand held equipment can fulfil their product needs for both signal processing and power management. Fairchild's spectrum of optimized process technologies, which includes Bipolar, CMOS, BiCMOS and DMOS will be utilized for continued development of innovative solutions for all Analog and Mixed Signal applications.

Fairchild's broad portfolio of power management, signal processing and data conversion solutions target the fast growing telecommunications, computing, and portable products markets. Fairchild will continue to expand its Analog portfolio through new product development and acquisitions targeting fast growing market segments including battery management, power regulation, motor control, backlight ICs and system supervision.

In approximately two and a half years, Fairchild has built an Analog business that is fourth in the power IC marketplace and rapidly growing. Expertise includes core design capabilities of MCU, PWM, LDO and programmable devices, in three key process technologies, BiCMOS, BiDMOS and CMOS. With a full range of voltages and currents (High Voltage Offline Switching, Low Voltage Regulation and Micropower) and complementary signal processing functions (ADC/DAC and Op Amps) coupled with "system smarts" through Microcontroller/Memory elements and innovative package technology, Fairchild offers designers technologies optimized for Power Conversion/Management, Data Conversion and Analog Signal Processing. By combining new product development, process and package technology, high volume manufacturing and world-wide support infrastructure, Fairchild offers its customers the ability to design products and rapidly ramp up to manufacturing on a world-wide basis.

Fairchild is in the process of integrating the KOTA team as well as pertinent portions of the Micro Linear team into its Analog and Mixed Signal Group.
