The need for translation
Logic level translators are required most often when a system contains logic that operates from a mix of voltage (VCC) levels. Typical applications where translation is required contain a microprocessor with I/Os at 1.8V and logic levels of 3.3V and higher for flash, panel display, or ASIC enable signals.

Fairchild FXL Series 1-8 bit Dual Supply Translators
FXL series are Fairchild’s newest family of dual-supply translators and are designed to translate up or down, for logic in the range of 1.0 V to 3.3 V. Utilizing space and power conserving technologies, these are ideal for use in ultra portables such as cell phones and digital cameras.

  • Outputs remain in 3-state until active VCC level is reached. Switch to 3-state if either VCC is at Gnd.
  • Power-up sequencing is not required.

Fairchild LVX and VCX™ Series Dual Vcc Translators for Up-Down / Down-Up Bi- directional translation of 1.8 V, 3.3 V., 5 Volt logic levels

  • Electrically isolates both sides of the device.
  • VOH is driven close to supply rail, thereby reducing power consumption.
  • Bidirectional and 3-state capability.
  • LVXC translators have configurable capabilities: signal levels track VCC. Opposite-side inputs and VCC pin can float.
  • VCX translators have high-impedance power-down capability.

Fairchild Open Drain Translators for Uni-directional Translation using external Pull-up Resistors
block diagram Open drain devices give the user flexibility in setting VOH with the VCC applied to the pull-up resistor.
  • Translation upward or downward determined by VCCA on the device and VCCB on the pull-ups.
  • VOH typically close to VCCB.
