Fairchild's Product/Process Change Notification (PCN) process is compliant to the JEDEC standard JESD46: Customer Notification of Product/Process Changes by Solid-State Suppliers. All direct-buy customers are notified of major changes and provided with a minimum of 90 days notification prior to implementation of the change. Indirect customers should be notified of Fairchild’s changes by their Fairchild authorized distributor, but additionally have access to the Product Change Management System (PCMS) described below.
Product and process changes allow Fairchild to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency. All product and process changes are thoroughly tested to industry standards prior to implementation.
Customers requiring samples or additional data to evaluate a change should contact their Regional Fairchild Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) within 30 days of the date of notification. To better insure a continuous supply of requested samples, customers should not delay in placing orders. Fairchild will have samples of the most common products available at the time a PCN is issued. It is not always possible to have samples available for every product type impacted by the change. We encourage customers to evaluate the impact of a change based on the samples that are available.
Fairchild's product discontinuance notification (PDN) process is compliant to the JEDEC standard JESD48: Product Discontinuance. All direct-buy customers are notified of product discontinuances and provided with a Last Time Buy period, followed by a Last Time Ship period, when possible. Indirect customers should be notified of Fairchild’s discontinuances by their Fairchild authorized distributor, but additionally have access to the Product Change Management System (PCMS) described below.
Fairchild’s standard Last Time Buy period is 6 months and begins on the date of notification distribution. The standard Last Time Ship period is an additional 6 months, from when the Last Time Buy date expires, to take delivery of the ordered product.
Fairchild distributes all PCNs and PDNs to impacted direct customers. Each impacted direct customer will receive an email from their Regional Fairchild CQE. These emails contain a link to the PCN/PDN document as well as a link to a personalized addendum.
Fairchild has additionally partnered with Information Handling Services (IHS) to provide both direct and indirect customers with immediate product change and product discontinuance notifications. The IHS service provides customers with an email announcement, from IHS’s Product Change Management System (PCMS), every time Fairchild posts a public product change or discontinuance notice. Customers can customize their preferences so they only receive notifications for the Fairchild products they specify. This service is free of charge and allows viewing of all public Fairchild notifications. Even customers who receive notifications directly from Fairchild may find the features of the service, such as the ability to search for changes by product number, a good reason to subscribe.
